Anarchy 2009
August 8, 2009
For Mo Sexton & Vince Steele, 2009 will probably be a year they’d rather forget. Coming into this year, one man was still one of the top contenders for the ACE Heavyweight Championship, while the other was sitting on the sidelines on the outside looking in at American Championship Entertainment.
For Mo Sexton, his main memory of 2009 was how he had to overcome yet another injury. While he’s used to the idea of injuries being a part of his pro wrestling career, it was the notion that it was his preexisting injury that put him on the shelf. During an edition of “Action Zone,” where (as usual) Hollywood, Inc. was raising hell, Sexton found himself on the receiving end of a severe beating from Azrieal with a steel chair. Being hit with a steel chair (amazingly) is also something Sexton has come accustomed to as a pro wrestler, but it was the target of this assault that was the problem for Mo: his knee. As is evident anytime you see Sexton wrestle he wears a knee brace, a result of knee reconstruction; an injury he suffered while training in the developmental territory of World Wrestling Entertainment which resulted in him being released with the idea that the door would always be open for a return in the future. The injury allowed Sexton time to heal and look over his career as a pro wrestler, and what he can do to improve it. His arrival in ACE Pro Wrestling was to do just that: improve his career, so that when, not if, the WWE came calling again he’d be ready and hungrier. Sexton capped off his return to the squared circle by becoming one of the biggest fan favorites in recent memory and winning a little piece of gold called the ACE Heavyweight Championship in one of the most brutal No DQ matches ever on November 10, 2007 at “Rise 2 Power”. Fast forward now to that fateful edition of “Action Zone” where Azrieal attacked Sexton’s knee. Upon seeing several doctors & specialists Sexton was told he’d need at minimum six to nine months to allow the knee to fully heal. Sexton, never was one to listen to his doctor’s advice, made his return to the ACE ring after just four months to face Azrieal (on a night when Azrieal was scheduled to go one on one with Eddie Kingston). Sexton seemed to be at his peak having seemingly not missed a step but gained a ‘moral’ victory over “The Good Guy” when Azrieal was disqualified. But it didn’t matter, as for Mo, he was back!
For Vince Steele, his main memory will also be that of an injury but also of one burning thought, “what could have been.” Since his arrival in late 2007, “The Remix of Pro Wrestling” has found himself in a position that not many people new to ACE find themselves in, that being the thick of the hunt for the ACE Heavyweight title. On more than one occasion Steele has had his opportunities to capture the heavyweight championship but it was always "Hollywood" Joe Hardway finding some way to eke out a win & retain the championship (much to the dismay of the fans & Steele). For Steele though, once Sexton captured the world title in 2007 at “Rise 2 Power,” he found his championship opportunities dwindle. In fact, this journalist can’t recall seeing one show where the main event was “Vince Steele vs. Mo Sexton” for the heavyweight championship. It wasn’t until Hardway regained the world championship in Montclair, NJ at Crossroads IV that Steele (who earlier on the show defeated Christian Faith in a South Boogie Street Fight) found himself again in the ‘catbird seat’ challenging for the title. However, all those challenges would be either met with controversial defeats or disqualification wins.
Ultimately though for Steele, the ACE championship committee began to limit the chances he would have for the championship to the point where he was no longer considered in the ‘top 5’. However, in the sport of pro wrestling ‘timing is everything.’ Finding himself again on the outside looking in on the championship picture Steele found a chance to return to the plateau of a championship challenger. All he would have to do is earn the ‘chance of a lifetime’ by winning the Chance of a Lifetime Rumble match at Crossroads V. Steele would stumble on his path to the Rumble, as a knee injury during a qualifying match against Dover would seemingly cost him his ‘chance of a lifetime’. The knee injury was not as bad as Steele first feared, and was able to finally earn a shot into the rumble winning the final entry spot & then go onto win the rumble, eliminating Dover.
When the card & main event was announced for Anarchy 2009 Steele contacted management and said he wanted to be a part of the show, and was willing to do anything. So not believing anything could or would happen he was appointed the guest referee of Dan Maff vs. Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana. Everything seemed to indicate management had made a good call as Steele, for his first time being a referee, kept a good cadence when he counted pinfall attempts, or when he needed to act in a authoritative manner, he did without seemingly showing favoritism. Here’s where fans perspectives will differ. Late in the contest Cabana left the ring and retrieved the championship belt with the intent on using it as a weapon. Steele saw this and when he attempted to take back the belt from Cabana swung and cracked Maff squarely in the face with the title. Immediately Sexton raced through the curtain, confronting Steele about what he had “intentionally” done (in Sexton’s eyes), but Steele wouldn’t back down from Mo saying it was an accident and to “get out of his face,” shoving Sexton to the outside of the ring. A confrontation again ensued in the ring, prompting referees and the locker room to empty out to separate the two.
Now as Collision Course looms on the horizon, Steele told management he wanted to step into the ring with Sexton and was willing to place his “#1 contender status” on the line to do so. For both men September 19 will mark a crossroads in their respective careers here in ACE at this point in time. For Steele, he needs to defeat Sexton and establish himself as the most credible threat to the ACE Championship since he first arrived in ACE Pro Wrestling almost two years ago. For Sexton, a win over Steele will be the icing on the cake, as it were capping off a very trying time in his ACE career. However, for both men, neither will be satisfied with defeating the other if it doesn’t mean down the road they can achieve their ultimate goal, capturing the ACE Heavyweight Championship. |

Anarchy 2009
August 8, 2009
On Saturday night August 8, fans in Union City, NJ were treated to something they thought they’d never see: the apparent self destruction of Hollywood, Inc.. It was moments after the conclusion of the tag team championship match that saw Johnson 2 Johnson retain the titles over the Saints of Brutality and Hollywood, Inc., when the apparent ‘cracks’ in the foundation of Hollywood, Inc. came to the surface.
As Azrieal was looking on, William Wyeth and “Hollywood” Joe Hardway began ‘assaulting’ each other, first verbally and then physically coming to blows. Some fans in attendance could clearly be heard CHEERING for someone to "kick Wyeth’s ass," obviously the person they cheered for was “Hollywood” Joe Hardway. But wait, wasn’t this the SAME Joe Hardway who just two years ago turned his back on American Championship Entertainment, which had helped nourish his young career in pro wrestling to join Hollywood, Inc.. The same man who prided himself in attempting to destroy ACE Pro Wrestling when Hollywood, Inc. took over, and the very same man who not only attempted to HANG Mo Sexton from the ceiling of the ACE Arena but tossed Sexton some nine feet through a table nearly ending his career just to attempt to retain the ACE Heavyweight Championship. Amazingly, that’s who some fans attending Anarchy were in fact cheering for. As if that wasn’t weird enough, there were some fans who wanted someone to "beat on Hardway," and amazingly the person they cheered for was none other than WILLIAM WYETH!!
Yes, the same William Wyeth who held the ACE WebTV Championship in a ‘death grip’ for over a year (thanks many times to a well hidden chain in his tights), until he finally lost the title to Thomas Rodriguez. The same William Wyeth was on a one man crusade verbally and physically attacking ACE Owner Mike Morgan and his family, including taking a SLEDGE HAMMER to Morgan’s young teenage son in the abdomen just to force Morgan to say “I Quit.”
Clearly the gods have lost their minds if the fans of ACE are forced to choose sides in this one on one match up between “Hollywood” Joe Hardway and William Wyeth on Saturday night, September 19 when ACE presents Collision Course.
However, all this makes one wonder, are we really seeing the end of one of the most hated and dominating factions in recent ACE history? Or has yet another diabolical plan been hatched by Hollywood, Inc. to lull ACE Pro Wrestling and the fans into the idea that Hollywood, Inc. is self destructing only to have them return to their dominating ways? |

Crossroads V
June 20, 2009
For about a minute at Crossroads V, ACE had a new heavyweight champion in the person of Kenny Omega. Senior Official Big Jose made the three count on Dan Maff, however he did not happen to see the champ's leg draped over the bottom rope. With the help of Official Matt Bennett (who was watching from the back), Big Jose decided to restart the match, where Dan Maff would retain the ACE Heavyweight Championship after hitting Omega with the Burning Hammer.
Crossroads V also saw a new challenger to the ACE Heavyweight Championship, as "The Remix Of Pro Wrestling" Vince Steele won the 10-man Chance Of A Lifetime Rumble match, and in doing so, won a future shot at the title.
Plus, Shawn Walker managed to retain his ACE Diamond Division Championship against Mike Donovan in a ladder match. Of course, holding onto the belt was made easier with the help of Dover who came out and sprayed something in Donovan's eyes. With Donovan blinded, it made Walker's trip up the ladder to retrieve his title a piece of cake.
Crossroads V managed to continue bitter feuds between Mo Sexton & Azrieal, as well as William Wyeth & ACE Owner Mike Morgan. Mo and Morgan managed to come out on the losing end of their respective contests, but don't for one minute think that either feud has hit the back burner. |

Destined 4 Greatness
March 21st, 2009
Destined 4 Greatness HISTORY was made as Dan Maff made good on his promise not only to ACE Owner Mike Morgan, but to the FANS of American Championship Entertainment by defeating "Hollywood" Joe Hardway and capturing the ACE Heavyweight Championship!
Although the match saw Hollywood Incorporated do everything within their power to prevent Dan Maff from making good on his word of liberating the Championship for the fans of ACE, their plan backfired as the DQ clause they added to the championship contract cost "Hollywood" Joe Hardway the ACE Heavyweight Championship.

Action Zone
March 11th, 2009
An official contract signing took place on Action Zone on March 11th for the American Championship Entertainment Heavyweight Title match scheduled LIVE at the A.C.E Arena Saturday night, March 21, 2009 during 'Destined for Greatness'.
Hollywood Incorporated thought they were getting one over on Dan Maff, Mike Morgan, and the A.C.E management, throwing in a NO disqualification clause in this match.
However, Mike Morgan and Dan Maff were well aware of this clause, and the challenger declared that NOTHING would keep him from bringing the American Championship Entertainment Heavyweight Title back where it belongs...to the fans of A.C.E Pro-Wrestling. |
